| Conservation and development examples from the field |
The following examples present a basic replication model based on the experiences of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) over more than ten years. It is clear that there is no single blueprint of a replicable model as culture, socio-economic systems and ecological conditions differ widely. Nevertheless, these models can be replicated with appropriate modifications. Each region or cultural community will have to work out its own concrete policy implications.
Every chapter of this website offers space to add your own experience from wherever you work in the field of conservation and development. The Berlin Institute staff will regularly incorporate constructive and critical comments. This will gradually generalize the examples.
The examples listed on this website are worked up in a thoroughly systematic way which makes them serve as guidelines for replication. Each one features the following issues:
- Introduction
- Key requirements
- Preparation
- Cost
- Strengths
- Replicability
- Weaknesses
Examples include the following subjects:
- Plantation
- Energy supply (especially: micro hydropower)
- Village sanitation improvement
- Drinking water scheme
- School infrastructure
- Conservation education in school
- Adult education
- Study tours
- Reproductive health
- Vegetable farming
- Support for livestock development
- Income generation through micro enterprise
